About SSM

The Socialist Struggle Movement is a fighting socialist organization pursuing across national communities the building of an internationalist working-class political voice in Israel–Palestine and to put forward a socialist alternative to the catastrophic chauvinist and pro-capitalist politics.

We stand firmly against the barbaric occupation, oppression and dispossession of the Palestinian people, and against Israeli imperialist aggression and expansionism, which are perpetrated under the decisive backing of US imperialism. Camouflaged behind a smoke screen of security demagoguery designed to manipulate the fears of millions of Israeli working class and poor, the logic of capitalism, imperialism and Zionist nationalism perpetuates an ‘eternal Nakba’, an endless reactionary war of subjugation and annihilation, and the plight of ordinary people — first and foremost the Palestinians, and ultimately the workers and poor of all nations.

SSM campaigns on the ground, including among movements of Israeli workers and youth, against all reactionary wars and occupations, and for the complete national and social liberation of the millions of Palestinians, which is a prerequisite also for any prospect for genuine regional peace, security, and welfare for all. However, this is fundamentally obstructed by the Israeli ruling class and its capitalist and racist regime, along with their reactionary counterparts in the form of oligarchic rulers across the region, and their global imperialist backers. It is only the prospect of a ‘socialist spring’ across the region, and as part of a global struggle, that could offer fundamentally a way out, including opening the way for the coming together of democratic, voluntary, socialist confederation of socialist states in the region, guaranteeing then equal right of self-determination to all nations, and the common development of the region.

Officially launched in 2002, then as part of the Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI) — with whom we now maintain fraternal political relations and are having exploratory discussions — SSM is currently the only visible socialist organization from a genuine Marxist, Trotskyist tradition in Israel–Palestine. SSM places an utmost importance on an international working-class point of view as vital starting point for all socialists today, and is open to develop discussion and useful collaboration with non-sectarian socialists in the region and across the world.
